Dr. Sami Khan

On Tuesday, 2 December at 9:00, Canadian Assistant Professor Dr. Sami Khan (Simon Fraser University) will deliver a public lecture at the Estonian University of Life Sciences, in the Tehnikamaja (room B136). His lecture, titled “Ideating at interfaces: enhancing performance and longevity of sustainable energy systems” focuses on the interactions that shape the performance and reliability of sustainable energy technologies.

Location

F. R. Kreutzwaldi 56

Timetable

Start 09:00

End 10:30

Lecture is open to all interested participants!

Dr. Khan will present his research in three areas:

  • Soot removal in biomass combustion, using laser-treated or sandblasted microtextures that promote self-cleaning surfaces.
  • Carbon capture and conversion, where aerophilic surfaces improve CO₂ dissolution and mass transfer.
  • Improving the surface interaction and stability of phase-change materials for thermal energy storage by applying various surface-patterning engineering approaches.

The lecture will provide a broader view of how to develop more durable, efficient and low-carbon energy solutions.

Dr. Sami Khan is an Assistant Professor at Simon Fraser University, where he leads a research group focused on improving the lifespan and performance of sustainable energy systems. He has secured over 1.1 million Canadian dollars in research funding, is the author of four patents, and has supervised numerous PhD and Master’s students. Dr. Khan holds a PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and has also served as a Science and Technology Advisor to the Chief Scientist of Canada.

The lecture will be held in English and is open to all interested participants.
